Summary of Discussion topics at National Council Meeting

Saturday 13 October, 2012

The document put forward to members about the situation of Bridging to UKCC by ETTA coaches was discussed. After varying comments it was decided there was not enough content in the document and more input was needed before any decision could be made. Also a number of Council Members had not received the document early enough to have discussed it with their County Committees. The meeting agreed to defer the final outcome until either the January meeting or the April meeting at the latest.

In the meantime the CEO detailed the General Secretary to contact the Insurance Company to arrange coverage to all ETTA coaches up to November 2013, when the coach licences are due.

A discussion was due to be held about the image of the Association for the future, but this did not take place due to further details being looked into to bring to the January meeting.

The Vice Chairman Coaching/Performance, in his report, stated that to compete at European standard our talented youngsters needed more training at the table and this should be done in their clubs and not at the Regions if we are going to succeed.

A screen presentation was given by the CEO of a major important issue being proposed by the Chinese Table Tennis Association for the future. The proposal is to set up a European Training Centre and to discuss this over a four day period. Chinese officials had stated that their players finishing first, second and third in major events was not the way forward for the sport. They had discussed this with top European players such as Timo Ball on the basis of adopting the training methods by the Chinese at their Shanghai Centre which is a massive building which houses 150 tables. The meeting agreed that this invite to our CEO will be a major influence for the future for us.

The CEO stated that the Liebherr World Cup in the Liverpool Echo Arena had been a massive success and the ITTF congratulated us on the organisation.

If we are successful in the bid for the 2017 World Championships this would be the ideal place to stage it as it is the best venue in the country by far.

The staging of the World Cup would be an added advantage in our favour especially as it is televised all over the world.
