Two young Northamptonshire stars of the future

Northants table tennis reached new heights recently as the County Association saw two of their players reach the National Finals.

The outstandingly talented England Under 11 duo of Sam Mabey and Miles Chan, who are ranked number two and number three in their age group, saw off all opposition to reach their respective seeded positions in the Under 11s final.

As club mates at Unity, they produced an excellent final which saw Sam Mabey dominating with a powerful display to attain his first national title with a 3-0 scoreline in front of the England selectors.

Steen Hansen, England technical manager, said he was "very impressed with both players" and as a result is forwarding them to the national academy in Sheffield for top-class training.

NATIONAL CADET LEAGUE

In its Annual Report for the year ended 31 March 2008 to be discussed at the AGM the following is recorded under Departmental Reports:

The league has had a very successful season with all organisers but one "experienced" NCL local organisers. Jon Binley (Westfield) was our one new Local Organiser and did an excellent job in the recruitment of the teams, the running of the four days and the follow-up paperwork.
